Last week, the IRS launched a web tool which allows individuals who don’t normally file a tax return to quickly register for Economic Impact Payments (often referred to as stimulus payments).
Eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for 2019 and 2018 will receive stimulus payments automatically. To assist people in tracking the status of their payments, the IRS will be launching the “Get My Payment” application. The application is anticipated to be ready by Friday and will allow individuals to track the date their payment is scheduled to be deposited in their bank account or mailed to them.
Additionally, eligible taxpayers can use the application to provide bank account information (if not previously provided on tax returns) to receive the stimulus payment more quickly, rather than waiting on a paper check. The web tool for non-filers to enter payment information, as well as the Get My Payment application (once available) can be accessed on the IRS website.
